1) HOOK. You've gotta have a great, irresistible hook. In one short sentence, convey the main story within the book. Examples: He wakes up on an empty plane at 35,000 feet. What now? She thought it was over. But no, it's back for blood. Take a look at your fave books and read their hooks. See how the bestselling authors do it. 2) BRIEF SUMMARY. Now, here is where you go into more detail. In a snappy paragraph, establish characters, issues, themes, and the plot. Again, trim the fat. They don't need the entire story, just the essentials. 3) REVIEWS. You have to add some legitimacy to the book and your author reputation by offering the readers some reviews, either by customers or bloggers. A couple of short reviews, preferably 4 or 5 stars. 4) ANY AWARDS. Won an award? Congrats! Don't waste that bragging right; put it in your blurb! 5) BUY IT. So, they've read your blurb. How do you finish it? Convince them to buy: Grab your copy today! Buy it now! Don't wait, get your copy today! Or something to that effect. That last sentence must give them an option to buy.
